Fireworks shows on Wednesday and Thursday may be rained out as a severe storm system rolls through the St. Louis region.
ST. LOUIS — A storm system is already causing officials to reschedule July Fourth firework shows across the St. Louis area.
5 On Your Side meteorologists issued a Weather Impact Alert Day for July 3-4. The storms threaten numerous firework displays scheduled to happen in St. Louis, St. Louis County, St. Charles County and the Metro East.

Firework events already rescheduled:
- Kirkwood Freedom Festival & Fireworks has been postponed from Thursday to Friday. Food trucks start at 5 p.m. and musical entertainment starts at 7 p.m.
- The Jefferson County Fairgrounds celebration has preemptively moved from Thursday to Friday, the Hillsboro Community Civic Club said. Gates open at 6 p.m. and fireworks begin at dusk.
- Washington, Missouri's Star Spangled 4th celebration and fireworks display has already moved its event from Thursday to Friday at 9:30 p.m., according to a city Facebook post.
- Milstadt, Illinois' Fourth of July Fireworks event has been rescheduled from Thursday to Friday at 9 p.m., the event's fundraiser told 5 On Your Side.
- O'Fallon, Missouri's Heritage and Freedom Fest Parade on July 4 was pushed back from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., officials said.
- Bridgeton's July Fourth parade was pushed back to 11 a.m. on Thursday, according to the city's police department.
- The Troy Rotary Club has postponed its annual Fourth of July fireworks show, according to The Lincoln County Journal. Officials said it will be rescheduled at a later date.
- The City of Bridgeton has canceled its festivities and fireworks festivities at the Bridgeton Municipal Athletic Complex. A new date for the fireworks will be shared at a later time.
- The O'Fallon, Parade has been pushed back to 10:15 a.m. on Thursday.
- The City of Florissant has moved their event to July 5th, according to city's Facebook page.
- St. Charles Riverfest officials told 5 On Your Side the Fourth of July Parade scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday has been canceled due to weather. Riverfest celebrations will still be taking place from noon to 10 p.m. Thursday in Frontier Park, with fireworks scheduled for 9:20 p.m.
St. Louis area's largest fireworks events are preparing for possible reschedulings:
Pre-Independence Day fireworks shows on Wednesday, including the Alton Fireworks Spectacular and Fireworks Over O'Fallon, are at risk with thunderstorms expected to begin after sunset. Large hail and weak tornadoes are possible.
"We are hopefully that the weather cooperates, and we can continue with our fireworks show on July 3. However, we are prepared to reschedule to July 7, 2024, in the event that rain ruins the plans," O'Fallon Assistant City Administrator Grant Litteken said.
Great Rivers and Routes, the organizer of the Alton Fireworks Spectacular, said fireworks will be rescheduled for Friday if a rain-out occurs.
Shows scheduled to happen on July 4, including the often large turnout events of Celebrate Saint Louis and the St. Charles Riverfest. Meteorologists currently forecastrain, damaging winds and potential hail to hit the region around dusk, when fireworks displays are scheduled to start.
Celebrate Saint Louis spokesperson Jessica Fox told 5 On Your Side the event can either be earlier or delayed until later depending on the weather. They did not share details on a potential rescheduling day.
A spokesperson for the City of Chesterfield told 5 On Your Side the annual Fireworks Celebration is still scheduled for Thursday evening, but in the event of inclement weather, the city is prepared to have fireworks only at 9 a.m. or postpone the event until Friday.
The City of Manchester said a decision on whether to postpone its Fourth of July Celebration in Schroeder Park will be my by 2 p.m. Thursday.
The Ellisville Police Department said Fourth of July festivities kick off at 6 p.m. in Bluebird Park. Should the event be canceled, the department will announce it on social media by 4 p.m. Thursday. In the event of a cancelation, a fireworks display without vendors will take place on Friday.
