Though your physical presence is no longer with us, your spirit lives on in the laughter, love and cherished memories we all hold dear in our hearts. Your legacy is a testament to the incredible husband, father, pampo, brother, uncle, protector and friend you were.
Danny E. Garduño was embraced by our loving God and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 07, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 10, 1948, to Geronimo and Antonia Garduño.
For all who knew him, Danny was a hard worker his entire life. He was a master craftsman and created beautiful masterpieces. Whether he was going for wood, creating beautiful projects with his children, or just making his family laugh, he was truly a talented man who loved his family. He was selfless, generous, kind and loving and always made time for his family as this was most important to him. His sense of humor is something that we will all surely miss. He was our provider, our nurturer, our protector and our guide. It is because of his immense love; we were truly blessed to have him in our lives.
Danny was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He bravely served his country from 1968-1969. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He was proud of his service and country. He recounted his stories of his experiences with friends and loved ones. He received several commendation medals for heroism, which involved manning a 105 Howitzer that protected and saved his platoon from ambush. He was featured in local news stories in the Las Vegas Daily Optic.
Danny retired from New Mexico Highlands University where he worked as a Carpentry Foreman. He dedicated 25 plus years of service to the local college. He completed numerous rock work throughout New Mexico Highlands University which is still visible today and includes his signature “G” imbedded within the rock work. He remodeled several areas throughout the campus; he was the preferred and selected carpenter by the NMHU President to work at his residence. He had many projects and accomplishments that are too numerous to list.
He is predeceased by his parents Antonia and Geronimo Garduño, Paternal grandparents are Pedro Garduño and Adela Lucero; maternal grandparents are Higinio Garcia and Valeria Montano, of Chaperito, NM. In-laws Jose and Eufelia Romero, Brothers Pete, Jerry, Leo, Gilbert, Joe and infant Juan Bautista Garduño. Sisters Maria Elena Montoya, Isabel Chavez, infant Edwina Garduño. Brother-in-laws, Manual Chavez, Carlos Montoya, Remijio Romero, and Robert Romero. Sister-in-laws, Marilla Garduño, and Beatriz Martinez-Garduño. Nieces and nephews, Alvin Garduño, Michael Montoya, Judi Garduño Gallegos, Paul Garduño, Denise Garduño, Lisa Chavez and Frank Lovato.
He is survived by his soulmate, Antonia Romero Garduño of the family home. Children Ofelia and David, Veronica and Ernest, Danny and Michelle. Grandchildren David (Julia), Michael, Sara; Anthony (Melina), Marcus and Danielle; Elias (Makayla), Andres, Danny, and Danika and a precious great grandchild on the way.
Also surviving are his brothers and sisters and their families: Ray Garduño and wife Andrea, Alice Gallegos and husband Donald, Viola Garduño, Antonio Garduño, Edwina Gallegos, Rose Ann Trujillo, and Rose Mary Garduño all of Las Vegas, NM, Della Gonzales and husband Rosalio of Arlington, TX, Lorraine Hernandez and husband Fred of Pueblo, CO; NM sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws: Elma Garduño of Thornton, CO, Patricia Garduño of Los Lunas, NM, Trinidad Gallegos, Oralia Romero, Mary and Manual Tarango, and Shirley Romero of Las Vegas, NM. Patsy and Manual of Albuquerque, NM, Also surviving are his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, dear cousins and friends.
Rosary services will be conducted at Our Lady of Sorrows on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 11:00 am with Father Augustine as celebrant. Burial to follow at the San Jose Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Anthony Vigil, Marcus Vigil, David Lucero, Michael Lucero, Elias Garduño, and Andres Garduño. Honorary pallbearers: Sara Lucero, Danny Garduño III, Danielle Mondragon, Danika Garduño and great grandchild Encinias Lucero.
